ISM is carrying out several projects around the use of social media in sport, investigating SM use by sport organizations, athletes, fans and sponsors. These projects involve the analysis of big data from SM platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and from around mega-events such as the Sochi 2014 Winter Games and the 2014 World Cup. ISM researchers are interested in partnering with sport organizations to investigate their use of social media and has begun such partnerships with organizations in Australia.
ISM is currently working on projects related to sport analytics related specifically to hockey as well as sport business analytics related to issues such as ticket pricing. This is a growing area of interest for ISM researchers and the sport industry alike. The goal will be to build industry partnerships for future projects.
The ISM and SportLink teamed up to investigate the potential for sport tourism for the Greater Sudbury area. This project provided insight into events to target for the future. ISM is very pleased to have worked with such a strong community lead group like SportLink and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the growth the sport industry in Greater Sudbury.
Gatorade Partnership Project
The ISM completed a three year research project with Gatorade. In July 2008, the ISM signed a contract for a 36-month research partnership with Pepsi-QTG (Canada), to complete research projects with a specific focus on the Gatorade brand family. Pepsi-QTG, SDI Marketing, and the ISM collaborated to further develop knowledge and best practices for students and future practitioners of sport marketing and sponsorship. The key to this development is the research-based approach that the ISM provided.
